Fresh Start Waste Services have been crowned regional winners of ‘The People’s Choice Family Business of the Year’ category at the 2019 Family Business of the Year Awards!
We feel very proud to have won the public vote in the North and Northern Ireland!
The champagne reception and glittering award ceremony were held at The May Fair Hotel in London on Thursday, 6 June 2019. Organised by Family Business United, the annual awards recognise the diversity of family firms across the UK and celebrate the contribution they make.
“This accolade is especially meaningful as many of our customers took the time to vote for us, which is a fantastic reflection of the quality, professionalism and service we offer” says our Chief Executive Officer, Nicola McGrath. She attended the event with her husband, Peter.
“This award win represents a significant milestone in our company history and honours the hard work of our entire team, who are leading the way in waste management.”
Fresh Start was one of eight companies to be shortlisted in ‘The People’s Choice North and Northern Ireland’ category – and the only one in Greater Manchester that’s led by a female CEO.
Our awards success follows 14 years of investment and continuous improvement since our founders, Nicola and her father, Paul Rogers, first launched the business in 2005.
“Attending the awards ceremony was hugely inspiring; many of the finalists and winners have been trading for decades across multiple generations,” says Nicola, who led our recent expansion from Greater Manchester into Merseyside.
“We are relatively early on in our journey, but we have already grown significantly over the past 14 years and now have 33 wagons that collect over 60,000 tonnes of waste annually.
‘We employ more than a hundred people and are passionate about making communities better places to live – whether that’s through the services we provide or our charitable giving.”
Paul Andrews, Founder of Family Business United, says: “Innovation, investment, passion and pride are evident in family businesses across the UK – confirming that the family business sector has much to celebrate. With around five million family firms in the UK providing around 12 million jobs and generating a significant contribution to GDP, these national awards certainly help to put the family business sector on the map and give them the recognition they deserve.”
