Fresh Start has achieved the Government-backed Cyber Essentials standard – demonstrating our commitment to cyber security.
The public declaration comes during European Cybersecurity Month, an annual awareness month which takes place each October.
The process of certification has taken six months; therefore, it represents a meaningful commitment to improve our defences against internet-based threats such as hacking, phishing and password-guessing.
The project was initiated by our Commercial Director, Colin Harvey, who says: “It’s not just the collection and recycling of waste, and the maintenance of a roadworthy fleet of trucks, that we take very seriously at Fresh Start. We are also mindful of our duty of care to safeguard the integrity and security of our customers’ information.
“We are aware of other companies who have been caught out by cyber attacks which have had a devastating impact on their ability to meet contractual commitments to clients.
“At Fresh Start, we took the positive and proactive decision to improve our defences within the framework of the Cyber Essentials scheme. It is a credible, MOT-style certification that says we are meeting key requirements in the way we process and store data.”
Cyber Essentials helps organisations to protect the confidentiality, integrity and availability of data stored on devices which connect to the internet. This includes desktop and laptop PCs, tablets and smartphones and all types of server and networking equipment.
The certification process has been overseen internally by our HR Manager, Dean Burrows, who explains: “Achieving the Cyber Essentials certificate has given us a clear picture of our organisation’s cyber security level. It also offers our customers assurances that we are working to secure our IT against cyber attacks.
