Business waste and recycling collector of choice Fresh Start Waste have continued their commitment to staff in training and development through the introduction of a fully funded driver training programme for employees wanting to progress their career by obtaining their HGV driving licence.

Fresh Start Waste work with thousands of businesses across the North-West of England to develop sustainable waste management solutions which look to reduce waste produced, recycle as much as possible and divert waste from landfill through using energy recovery instead. This work sees the waste collected in environmentally friendly trucks by carbon conscious Fresh Start Waste and taken to their state-of-the-art recycling centre for further sorting and onward recycling.

They have continued to provide this essential service throughout the pandemic and due to ongoing expansion are addressing the shortage of qualified HGV drivers by offering a fully funded comprehensive HGV training programme for those employees wishing to take this career path.

Dean Burrows, HR Manager at Fresh Start Waste said

“As a family-run business, our culture is one of training and developing our employees. With this in mind, and our forward-planning involving the recruitment of additional driving staff as we continue to grow, we wanted to make it possible for current staff, such as ‘Runners’ who assist the drivers in servicing our customers, to have the opportunity to upskill.

This will also plug the gap in a difficult recruitment market. There are currently five staff on the programme, who are all doing exceptionally well so far, and we hope they will be fully qualified within the next 12-16 weeks.”

Fresh Start Waste intend to continue running this programme and potentially open it up to new recruits in the future as the business continues to grow.
