Introducing Fresh Start’s pocket battleship
Here at Fresh Start, we are celebrating the delivery of the 31st vehicle in our fleet. Our wagons and bright orange bins are well-known features on the streets of Manchester and the North West, but this one gives us the opportunity to do something a little different. And in this case, we really do mean ‘little’.
Fresh Start name new wagon after employee
We are delighted to announce that the latest addition to our waste collection fleet is to be named after a member of our staff. Megan Wharmby is a Traffic Controller who has been an integral part of Fresh Start for the past three years. In fact, she has made such an impression that we feel this is the ultimate way to immortalise her into the history of the company.
Fresh Start’s Recycling World Cup 2018
With the FIFA World Cup getting underway in Russia, we’ve had a look to see how each of the qualifying nations stack up when it comes to recycling. Along the way, we’ll encounter the vastly different ways that countries deal with the issue of waste, as well as ingenious community enterprises, corruption, and even social stigmas against recycling.
The great FS Waste bake off raising money on St. George’s day for Cancer Research
We’d like to thank all the competitors for taking part in this year’s Great FS Waste Bake Off, where we feel an extremely high bar has been set ahead of the next edition. Most importantly, though, we managed to raise £200.00 for Cancer Research UK.

Women in the waste industry – International Women’s Day 2018
It won’t come as a great shock to hear that the waste industry is largely male dominated but that just isn’t the case here at Fresh Start. For International Women’s Day 2018 we want to celebrate the females who help our business tick and prove that gender is no barrier to success in a traditionally masculine sector.
Can you recycle pizza boxes?
Pizza boxes. They’re cardboard, so they’re recyclable, right? Well, that’s only partially true, and despite what some reports would have you believe, you can recycle plenty of pizza boxes. Takeaway pizza boxes are indeed cardboard, an almost universally recycled material.
How to save money on landfill tax by streaming your skip waste
HMRC recently promised to crack down on the evasion of Landfill Tax, thanks to a £150m black hole in unpaid revenue mentioned in the most recent available figures from 2014-15. Many businesses assume that all kinds of waste can be thrown into their skips. Unfortunately, that just isn’t the case and can lead to huge Landfill Tax tariffs.
Fresh Start waste welcome two new vehicles
We are delighted to announce the further modernisation of our fleet of vehicles with the arrival of two new DAF waste wagons. While they are capable of processing up to three different streams at a time, our new trucks will be specialising in the collection of glass and food waste from businesses throughout the North West.
